Political favoritism and social protection policies: Evidence from a cash transfer program in Colombia

Investigates whether Colombia's largest conditional cash transfer program, Más Familias en Acción, favors municipalities politically aligned with the national government. Using a close-election regression discontinuity design, the study finds no evidence that aligned municipalities received more resources or beneficiaries between 2014 and 2018 — suggesting that reforms introduced in 2012 strengthened the program against political manipulation.
